Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity
Sergeant Major Jerry J. Gomes

Ordered to attend Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, SC on 20 April 1993, to attend recruit training. He was assigned to 3rd Bn, Kilo Co, Platoon 3061. 

Private First Class Gomes would execute orders and attend Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Geiger, Camp Lejeune, NC in July 1993. Upon Completion of MCT he attended basic aircraft mechanics school in Millington, TN; followed by “C” school in Cherry Point, NC for instruction on the AV-8B.

In April 1994 Lance Corporal Gomes was transferred to VMA-311, Marine Aircraft Wing 13, Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma AZ.  In May of 1994 Lance Corporal Gomes deployed for 6-months to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan.

Upon returning from deployment, Corporal Gomes would participate in CAX in 1995.  In December 1995 he would deploy with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 to West Pac and take part in operation Southern Watch.  In November 1996, Corporal Gomes would deploy with HMM-265 aboard the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), to Okinawa Japan, for 6-months and volunteered to remain deployed for another 6-months as a part of a cross deployment with VMA-311.

In November of 1998 Sergeant Gomes was transferred to Aviation Maintenance Squadron One, Marine Aviation Training Support Group-21, Pensacola FL as a MOS Instructor. 
In January of 2002, Staff Sergeant Gomes reported to Parris Island, SC. to attend Drill Instructor School class 2-02.  Upon graduation of Drill Instructor School Staff Sergeant Gomes was assigned to Support Battalion to attend the Marine Corps Martial Arts Green Belt Instructor Course, where he would receive a secondary MOS of 8551(Martial Arts Instructor).   In May 2002 Staff Sergeant Gomes was assigned to 3rd Battalion, Lima Company.  During his tour at Parris Island he would serve and fulfill the duties of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Series Chief Drill Instructor, and Martial Arts Instructor.

In May of 2005 Gunnery Sergeant Gomes was transferred to VMA-214 to be the airframes division chief, where from December 2005 to June 2006 he deployed to Iwakuni, Japan in support of the 31st MEU.  Upon his return he would was transferred to H&S Bn as the Chief Instructor for the Corporals Leadership Course.  He attended the Ground Safety Course for Marines in January 2007, and was subsequently appointed as the Ground Safety Manager for MAG-13 in February 2007.

In November of 2007 Gunnery Sergeant Gomes attended the Advisor Training Group Course in Camp Pendleton, CA.  Upon completion of training, he deployed as part of a Point of Entry Transition Team (POETT) to Husaybah, Iraq; from February 2008 until September 2008.

In December 2008 First Sergeant Gomes was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Company F, Second Battalion Fifth Marines. He conducted training at MWTC, Bridgeport CA for cold weather training and attended EWTGPAC for boat raid training in preparation for the 31st MEU. He August of 2009 he deployed to Camp Hansen, Japan in support of the 31st MEU.
In February 2010 First Sergeant Gomes deployed with Co F to Afghanistan in support of OEF, and attached to task force 1/6 in Marjah.

In January 2011 he deployed to Okinawa Japan in support of the 31st MEU. During the deployment the MEU was in support of operation Tomadachi.

In September 2011 he was transferred to Company I, Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry West.

In September 2012 he assumed the duties as the MCT Sergeant Major, in December 2012 he assumed the duties of the Headquarters and Instructor Company First Sergeant.

In July 2013 he was assigned as the Recruiting Station Phoenix, 8th Marine Corps District where he served as the Sergeant Major until April 2016.

In April 2016 he was transferred to MAG-13, MCAS Yuma to serve as the MAG-13 Sergeant Major.

In February of 2019, Sergeant Major Gomes received orders to Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA), Camp Pendleton, California, for duty.

Personal Decorations Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement with 2 stars in lieu of third award, Combat Action Ribbon.
