A native of Garland, Texas, Major Hanas received a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Management in 2011 from Stevens Institute of Technology where he also earned All-Conference honors as a pitcher for the baseball team. He commissioned as a second lieutenant in December 2011 upon graduation from Officer Candidates School.
Major Hanas’s Fleet Marine Force assignments include Platoon Commander and Battery Executive Officer, 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion 2014-2016; Unit Deployment Program Officer in Charge, Marine Air Support Squadron 2 2016-2017; Battery Commander, 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion 2017-2019; Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems Officer in Charge, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command 2019; and Assistant Operations Officer, 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion 2019-2020.
Major Hanas’s staff assignments include I Marine Expeditionary Force and III Marine Expeditionary Force Assistant Team Lead, Experiment Division, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory. In this role, he shaped the concept development of the newly implemented Marine Littoral Regiment in support of Force Design efforts.
In August 2023, Major Hanas reported to duty at Program Manager for Training Systems to serve as the Marine Air Command and Control System Project Officer and I Marine Expeditionary Force Regional Team Leader. He assumed Executive Officer responsibilities in July 2024.
Major Hanas is a graduate of the Low Altitude Air Defense Basic Officer’s Course, Low Altitude Air Defense Enhanced Training Instructor Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, and Marine Corps Command and Staff College. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (one gold star).
Major Hanas is married to the former Kaitlyn Taylor. Together they have three children, Walker, Gillian, and Dean.
