WOODBRIDGE, Va., -- All Marines and Civilian Marines who work in an acquisition-related billet or department, or who support the Marine Corps acquisition team, are invited to attend Acquisition Excellence (AE) Day on June 6 at the Hylton Events Center, 14640 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, Va. The doors open at 7:15 a.m., and all attendees should be in their seats by 8 a.m.
This annual event focuses on matters of topical concern to the Marine Corps, as well as the personal and professional development of members of the acquisition workforce. The event also gives the Marine Corps an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the active-duty and civilian Marines who work at Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), the affiliated Program Executive Offices (PEOs) and supporting organizations through presentation of both Marine Corps and MCSC-level awards for excellence in acquisition.
This year's AE Day theme is "Our Heritage/Our Future, Returning to Our Expeditionary Roots." It reflects the vision of the Commandant of the Marine Corps regarding the future of the Corps, the 25-year history of Marine Corps acquisition commands and MCSC's vision for the systems command of the future.
The planned 2012 keynote speaker is Major General Mark Brilakis, Assistant Deputy Commandant (Programs), Programs and Resources Department, Headquarters Marine Corps. He will address the theme and other matters of direct interest to the acquisition workforce. MCSC has also invited Steven Gaffney, a nationally known speaker, to address the workforce on matters that will serve to enhance their communications and teamwork skills.
The target audience for this event is both acquisition and non-acquisition personnel assigned to MCSC and their supported PEOs. Other Department of Defense civilians and military, Marine Corps acquisition personnel, along with government contractors who support the acquisition mission, may attend as guests. Attendance at AE Day for contractor personnel is at the discretion of the Contracting Officer's representatives. Contractors are welcome to attend, but their management must understand that the government should not be billed for the time.
All members of MCSC and affiliated PEOs, as well as contractors who have attended Defense Acquisition University (DAU), must register using the "Register Now" website located at: https://www.atrrs.army.mil/channels/clm/default.asp.
Non-acquisition workforce members will be required to establish an account to register. Non-DAU contractors may register by forwarding a copy of their supervisor's approval to ashley.welsh@usmc.mil.
Acquisition workforce members properly registered and in attendance will earn eight continuous learning points.
Local travel (TAD) funding requirements are the responsibility of the section/command of the individual attending.
