— A Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity Marine was recognized by Maj. Gen. Vincent A. Coglianese, commanding general, Marine Corps Installations Command, during an Installation neXt Mobility symposium and industry day event May 7, aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. Maj. Steve Harvey won the MCICOM 2019 Resilience Crowdsourcing Challenge, which sought to address making Marine Corps installations more resilient in five categories: energy, water, communications, food and logistical mobility.

Marines assess small business innovations during weeklong evaluation

— The Marine Corps values small business innovations. From April 29 to May 3, the Small Business Innovation Research program at Marine Corps Systems Command hosted a Limited Military User Assessment and Engineering Technical Review at the Gruntworks Squad Integration Facility aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico.

Marines evaluate biometric systems in tactical environment
May 21, 2019
— Marine Corps Systems Command sent a group of Marines and civilians to rural Indiana in April to participate in a weeklong series of tactical exercises to evaluate two intelligence capabilities the Corps is considering as a replacement biometric system. “The event gave Marines an opportunity to be in the field, evaluate the equipment and provide candid feedback of these systems,” said Sarah Swift, MCSC’s Identity Operations team lead. “They let us know which system is more operationally relevant to them.”

Corps seeks lighter, more capable rifle optic for combat arms Marines

— Marine Corps Systems Command is requesting information that will inform the procurement of a new Squad Common Optic for use on the M4, M4A1 and M27. The Request for Information indicates that the Corps is seeking a lighter weight optic that can acquire targets from a farther distance than its predecessor.

New radio system enables Marines to simultaneously monitor multiple networks

— The Marine Corps’ radio systems are getting smaller, lighter and more capable. The Corps plans to employ multichannel radio systems that enable Marines to simultaneously monitor two radio networks. The capability will enhance situational awareness and increase the speed of execution on the battlefield.

Corps announces winners of helmet retention system prize challenge
April 26, 2019
— Marine Corps Systems Command completed the first of a series of prize challenges in April, awarding cash prizes to two teams for submitting innovative ideas to improve the Corps’ helmet retention system. Ohio-based company Team Wendy, which specializes in the development of protective head-borne systems, took the overall prize of $25,000. The innovation prize of $5,000 went to a team of friends and engineers out of Seattle, Washington, including Barret Schlegelmilch, Maxim Khatsenko and Andrew "Kit" Kennedy.

Enhancements underway for Corps’ handheld targeting system
April 24, 2019
— The Marine Corps is integrating new technologies into an existing handheld GPS targeting system that helps Marines locate adversaries on the battlefield. Fielded in 2017, the Common Laser Range Finder-Integrated Capability is a handheld target location system that uses an eye-safe laser range finder and algorithms to determine a target’s location. It then transmits that location to the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System or another fire support system.

Marine Corps plans to replace LAV with new, ‘transformational’ ARV
April 16, 2019
— The Marine Corps plans to begin replacing its legacy Light Armored Vehicle with a modern Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle late in the next decade. The ARV will be highly mobile, networked, transportable, protected and lethal. The capability will provide, sensors, communication systems and lethality options to overmatch threats that have historically been addressed with more heavily armored systems.

The Corps’ new fire truck is rolling toward FOC
April 9, 2019
— Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fight Marines are getting a modernized rig—their first in over 30 years. The P-19R ARFF will be the principal firefighting and crash response vehicle for the Marine Air Ground Task Force, and will be able to support all operations where the MAGTF is employed.
