Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) supports the Operating Forces (OPFOR) and National Security Strategy (NSS) by providing force protection to include locating, accessing, identifying, rendering safe, neutralizing, and destruction of foreign and domestic hazardous materials, such as: Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE), Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) that present a threat to United States military operations, installations, personnel, or materiel as per MCRP 3-17.2C, Multi-Service Procedures for Explosive Ordnance Disposal in a Joint Environment.
