Holiday Heroes: In Service of Mission and Cheer

Since the earliest days of our nation’s history, the United States Marine Corps has been home to countless heroes—men and women who have risked their lives in service to our country and our constitution. From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, legendary Marines like Lt. Gen. Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller, Sgt. Maj. Daniel J. Daly, and Cpl. As a cost analyst at Marine Corps Systems Command, José Rodríguez knows what it means to be connected to a greater mission as he helps Marines get the gear they need. “Working for [the Training Systems program office], we are nurturing people in a way that they are able to come home to their loved ones because they are fully trained to protect our country,” he said.

Holiday Heroes: Civilian Marines pay it forward year ‘round

Not all heroes wear capes. Cliché perhaps, but nonetheless true. For many, the holidays bring a spirit of giving and a desire to help others. For five Marine Corps Systems Command employees, giving to and helping others are year-round resolutions. They demonstrate compassion for others as they support Marines on the job, and use their spare time, skills and in some cases money to improve the lives of people both inside and outside the gate. Meet MCSC’s “Holiday Heroes.”

Marines answer the call to service all over the world. Civilian Marines Ken and Deb Beutel, both employees of Marine Corps Systems Command, are doing the same; giving their time and talent to serve children living in danger and poverty in Sierra Leone.
