Career Fields

Contracting

Career Responsibilities: Creates effective, efficient, and proper business arrangements for the purpose of procuring hardware and software ultimately in support of the warfighter. They have a strategic focus on acquisition and ensure performance of all necessary actions for effective contracting, ensuring compliance with the terms of the contract and safeguarding the interests of the United States in its contractual relationships.

Degree Requirements: All degree fields. At least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields: accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management.

Cost Estimating

Career Responsibilities: Conduct life cycle cost estimating and analysis, cost research studies, and data base development as it relates to the development, production, fielding of material acquisition systems within the Department of Defense.

Degree Requirements: All degree fields. At least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics of statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

Engineering

Career Responsibilities: Performs systems planning, research and development and/or engineering tasks to support acquisition programs. Engineers may plan, organize, conduct, and/or monitor engineering design, development and sustainment activities for systems or systems components with the Department of Defense.

Degree Requirements: All engineering degree fields.

Financial Management

Career Responsibilities: Business Financial Managers and Budget Analysts apply concepts of budget and program principles, policies, procedures, concepts, standards, terminology and general knowledge of the financial management and business operation systems.

Degree Requirements: All degree fields. 

Life Cycle Logistics

Career Responsibilities: Responsible for planning, development, implementation, and management of effective and affordable weapons, material, or information systems. They support and provide inputs into costs and performance management across the product support value chain, from design through disposal.

Program Management

Career Responsibilities: Responsible for acquisition planning, assessing risk (technical, cost and schedule), and contract tracking and performance evaluation.
