Communication Strategy and Operations Marines with II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) recently conducted a field training exercise to test new 5G communications technology designed to support rapid, secure imagery transmission in contested and austere environments.
Marines with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, initiated a limited user evaluation (LUE) of the Military Light Frame (MLF), a new load-bearing option designed to improve comfort and mobility without sacrificing durability, on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., July 15, 2025. For the next nine months, representatives from Combat Support Systems (CSS) will work closely with the unit, collecting feedback on the frame’s performance during training and real-world scenarios. In the coming weeks, Marines will put the system through its paces during exercises in Bridgeport, California, and at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California.
In the ever-evolving battlespace of modern communications, Staff Sgt. Trentin Dunn is helping ensure Marines remain one step ahead. Based out of Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, with the Tactical Communications and Electromagnetic Warfare program office, Dunn traveled to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, recently to train II Marine Expeditionary Force’s Communication Strategy and Operations unit on the implementation of TCE’s latest 5G expeditionary transmission system.
